Blood To The Crop
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
Our 3rd year exam submission, 2022. We made a rough version of a 3D Plants VS Zombies.
Blood To The Crop explores resource management and survival as players protect their farm from waves of zombies. This was a group project worked on by myself, Craig and Josh. Our roles were as follows:
Kate (keightyrose) | Engineer: character and enemy controller, shooting, crops and growing system, economy and inventory, and animation and UI art (don't look at the hands or the gun thank you). |
Craig | Artist: level design, art and animation. |
Josh | Artist and engineer: asset design, UI, wave spawn and defense system. |
Some notes:
We were inspired by Plants VS Zombies, Black Ops and Kingdom: New Lands.
Blood To The Crop’s core game loop is essentially: plant, protect, harvest, sell, upgrade. Players will have to plant crops, protect them and themselves with weapons and perimeter defences, harvest the crops to sell, and upgrade their weapon - with survival being the motivation for the loop. Zombies attack during the waves yet the waves are structured in intervals. A wave will begin once the player has grown crops and will only end once all the zombies in that wave have been killed.
If the player’s health reaches zero from continued damage from the attacking zombies, then they will die and lose the game. Additionally, if their crops get destroyed from the plant attacking zombies the game will also be lost. Both the player’s and crop’s survival are what must be sustained in Blood to the Crop. To win the game the players must survive until and beyond the very last wave that will hold a large onslaught of zombies. To do so the player will require determination and thorough engagement with the farm’s systems.
