Gothic Girl

Gothic Girl is a fashion game prototype  that I made in 2nd year varsity, 2021. At the time, I had just started playing Love Nikki, a narrative driven and suit collecting fashion game, which inspired me to make this prototype. I also play Covet Fashion. One feature I admire about this game is that all the clothes can be bought in real life as they use real and featured brands. I wanted to take what inspired me from the two games I play to create my own idea of a fashion game. 

This project helped in practicing UI skills and coding an basic economic system. I had initially proposed the project as a resource management game because players were buying and competing with clothing as a resource, but the game sort of misses the mark of a collecting, monitoring, and leveraging quantitative resources. It rather resulted in exploring what would make a fashion game interesting for me. 

Looking back, I would have liked to have paid more attention to UI/UX. The fashion games I play are designed for mobile so translating that design to PC requires some fineness. So if I ever ventured into this prototype again I would put a lot of focus into polishing that. And alongside that would be the system of the game too - doubling down on the point of the game, the rewards system, its aesthetic. And finding better ways to code the game too, like the inventory. I wonder how games like Love Nikki and Covet have such extensive collections. I can maybe imagine them making use of scriptable objects. So exploring better ways to program the game would be priority too.

But what I have here today is an experimental prototype. I would love to hear your thoughts on it - do you see any value in the idea? What is the idea lacking? What do you think of my outlook on the project? Any feedback would be appreciate. Let me know if you think I should take another whack at this!
